There isn't any physical damage anywhere on the device (no cracked screen, no scratches, no bends or breaks on the chassis ) The devices has lived in my office most its life with very rare journeys into the outside world. Everything else on the device looks and acts correctly. Is there any way to check if the track pad is physically broken? It looks, clicks, feels, and sounds like normal. The trackpad has always been really flaky on this devices, and it looks like it's just given up.
I've done all the basic stuff (updated/reinstalled drivers, boot into safe mode, etc.) but I haven't reloaded the OS yet. I have tried multiple bluetooth/USB mouses, and they all work perfectly fine, it's just the trackpad. If I click down anywhere on the pad, it registers as a Right Click (Context menu pops up in the middle of the screen) and when I unclick (mouse up) the context menu goes away. The mouse pointer doesn't show up when I drag my finger around the pad. I have an HP Spectre x360 that I purchased in 2017 (it's been out of warrentee for 5 months) and all the sudden, the touchpad stopped working.
